How much does it cost a coach?
Nothing. Pass The Coach is a nonprofit. Education, first aid training, and the background check are all free to the coach, covered by donors and sponsors.
What does "PTC Approved" mean?
A coach completed an age-based coaching module and quiz, first aid and CPR awareness training, and passed a verified background check. It is a minimum safety and education standard for working with youth athletes.
Why age-based education instead of sport-specific?
Because safety starts with child development, not playbooks. A coach picks their age group (4-7, 8-12, or 13-17) and learns how to communicate, correct, and build confidence at that stage.
How does the background check work?
A professional, FCRA-compliant screening partner runs the check through its own secure system. Pass The Coach never sees or stores sensitive data. Your dashboard shows the status as it moves from Submitted to Pending to Passed.
How long does it take?
The education and first aid modules can be finished in one sitting. Background checks usually clear within minutes to a few days depending on records, with live status updates along the way.
How long does PTC Approved last?
One season, about 10 months. Coaches re-screen and renew each season so a pass always reflects a current background check.
What do I receive when I'm approved?
A digital PTC Pass with your name, age group, first aid and background status, approval and expiration dates, a unique coach ID, and a QR code that anyone can scan to verify you. You can download it, print it, and share it.
Can my league or rec program sign up?
Yes. PTC is built for organizations that don't have the resources to run screening and training on their own. Create a league account to send coaches one link and track every coach's status in your League Portal.
How can I support the mission?
Donate, sponsor a coach for $25, or partner with us. Every dollar goes toward making one safety standard universal in youth sports.
