Nothing. Pass The Coach is a nonprofit (501(c)(3) status pending). Getting PTC Approved — education, first aid, and the background check — is free for coaches and leagues, fully funded by donors and sponsors.

A coach is PTC Approved once they complete an age-based coaching module and quiz, a first aid & CPR awareness module, and a verified background check. It signals they've met the minimum safety and education standard to work with youth athletes.

The biggest concern isn't whether someone knows the sport — it's whether they know how to safely and positively lead children at a given developmental stage. Coaches choose 4–7, 8–12, or 13–17 and learn how to communicate, correct, and build confidence for that age.

Screening is handled securely by a professional provider (such as Checkr or Sterling Volunteers). Sensitive data goes directly to the provider — we never store it. Status shows in your dashboard: Submitted, Pending, then Passed.

The education and first aid modules can be finished in one sitting. The background check is usually quick but can take minutes to a few days depending on records. You'll see live status the whole time.

A PTC Pass is valid for one season — about 10 months. Before it expires, coaches re-screen and renew to stay PTC Approved. We built it this way on purpose: a background check from a year ago doesn't prove someone is safe today, so seasonal renewal keeps every approval current and every child protected.

A digital PTC Pass with your photo, name, age group, first aid and background-check status, approval and expiration dates, a unique coach ID, and a QR code — downloadable as a PDF and shareable with your league.

Yes. Pass The Coach is built especially for organizations without the budget or staff to run their own screening and training. Reach out and we'll help bring the standard to your program.

Donate, sponsor a coach, or partner with us. Every gift covers training and background checks so youth safety is never blocked by cost.
